thousands of miles away

Video web conferencing is easy.

If you have access to a high-speed internet connection and a webcam installed on your up-to-date computer, you can then contact family and friends with a visual having a web conference call, anywhere in the world.

Having your cappuccino coffee at a WiFi hotspot and talking live while seeing your friend in his/her living room thousands of miles away is just a common thing nowadays.

Totally amazing!

How do you have access to video web conferencing?

Here are the answers:

1) using Skype or Messenger

If you are limiting or shortening your RVing adventures because you are missing being in touch with your kids and grandkids, there is no more reason because web video conferencing is the perfect tool for you.

With internet, you have found online conferencing.

Skype or Messenger are FREE software applications that let you do a web conference call anyone in the world over the internet.

If the person you are calling have also downloaded the FREE video web conferencing application software on his/her computer, you will be able to talk to each other PLUS have a visual i.e. web conferencing if both computers have a web camera installed.

It allows two Skype or Messenger webcam equipped computer users to have a TV studio where each person see, hear and talk to each other in real time. This is the definition of video web conferencing and it is FREE.

If you do not have a webcam, you can still talk to each other. You can have a group chat as well.

However, to have it work well, it is important to have access to a high speed internet connection.

Downloading SKYPE as well as MESSENGER is extremely worthwhile. After you use video web conferencing, you will be hooked to this fairly new technology.

The only requirement is to have a fairly recent computer and operating system, a good high-speed, broadband internet connection plus a webcam.

The site itself will give you all the specs concerning the hardware you need. Note that there is a downloadable software version for PCs or Mac and you have to select the proper one.

2 ) using iChat from Apple

Apple offers the iChat application included with Mac OS X (the Mac operating system).

It allows both PC and Mac users to stay in touch using text and video. iChat is a rich instant messaging application that works with your AIM (a large instant messaging community) or a MobileMe account.

You still need a webcam to have a visual. All new Mac laptops and the iMac include a built-in iSight camera and microphone.

It is that easy to have video and audio chats with friends and family!

You can have as well a group of people online video web conferencing. iChat has video backdrops built in the application or you can include your own video in the background.

3 ) using Facetime video conferencing

Products recently introduced on the market by Apple use this new technology called Facetime video conferencing which is just amazing.

It all started with the iPod Touch then the iPhone and later the iPad. Apple has now included Facetime as a feature of the new MacBook Pro and iMac.

This allows you to have a visual with a voice communication. Go on the website and take a guiding tour.

If the person you want to talk to does not have access to a computer and/or internet, you can still use Skype as a tool to call them on their personal phone using their regular number and this over internet.

There is a fee attached to this internet phone service but nothing compared to the cost of a regular phone line. You can buy more time with automatic renewal online with a credit card.

The voice communication is through the computer but the advantage is that there is no limitation of where you can call.

There is a whole list of countries all over the world. An international call costs about 2 or 3 cents per minute. A bargain!

The other option is to buy the Magic Jack

This is certainly the best purchase you can make.

If you have access to wireless internet with a broadband connection, this little device will allow you to make free calls with free long distance for a year and then there is a minimal annual fee.

The service is not worldwide but the calls can be made anywhere in Canada and the USA.

You buy it online for $40 which includes the year of free calls and later you only pay $20 per year to renew the subscription. It is very inexpensive and the result is amazing.

Like e-mail has eliminated most of the postal mail, internet phone calls with this little electronic device eliminates a phone bill every month.

You can use it while RVing, at home or at a hotel since you can carry it with you everywhere you go.

Simply plug the Magic Jack in the USB port of your computer and then plug any land line phone to the back of the device and make calls like you normally would.

You also have some features included like call wait, voice mail, 911 etc... similar to a regular phone. Give it a try!
